Routing template/replacement pickguards for a jazz body with a P/J setup

Hi all,

I'm converting one of my Fender J's into a P/J and I would like to do a universal route (in case I change my mind later )

Does anyone have a route template (it's a modern jazz body, so contemporary pickup spacing) or know where I can get a replacement pick guard to fit?

What is the "universal route template"?

Are you trying to do the swimming pool route, like on a Strat?

I've read in various places on TB that it's possible to do a rectangular route that either a P pickup or a J pickup can fit in. I'm not experienced in woodworking at all, so I really have no idea where to start.

There is no need to remove excess wood, just put a P route over the J route that's already there.

Reverend had a Route that supported either a P or J pickup. You might want to check their "Club Thread" and see if someone with a P/J RumbleFish would send you a picture, or some dimensions. But overlaying the P-Route on the existing J-Route sounds like a decent plan...
