All the stars seemed to have aligned in the last few weeks. I sold a bunch of extra guitar gear (including my Roland Cube 40) which is funding my bass purchases. I just yesterday accepted an offer for some loaded Strat pickguards that would cover a bass amp purchase. I didn't want to wait because I'm in the midst of testing two 5-string basses and didn't want to rely on a guitar amp. So I went to the nearest GC but with limited inventory I came home with a Rumble 100.
The Rumble 100 is a decent bass amp. But in terms of what I can get for similar money (a few dollars more) I have to ask if I'd be happier with something else. Two other amps come to mind right away: The Gallien-Krueger MB 110 and the TC Electronic BG250 1x15. I can get the GK and the TC for around $329, only $30 more than I paid for the Rumble 100.
The BG250 1x15 is a close-out/demo amp. I really like the BG250 combo head a lot. I think this is the very same amp that we played at the store's blues jam (which they discontinued- both the jam and the TC brand). I like the TonePrint idea as it expands the capabilities far beyond what the Rumble has. The concerns are- size, weight and overkill. I'm in a small condo with crabby neighbors and may potentially gig it one day, but at this point all the stuff I've done has been through a house system. Space at home is an issue, but if this were so much better for my needs I'd find a way.
Then there's the GK MB 110. I only saw one comparison review and it liked the GK better than the Rumble. Said it was louder. I'm not familiar with the GK sound, but it's smaller 14.5 x 12.5 x 12.5" vs Rumble 14x16x19 and same weight. 10" speaker vs 12" speaker.
Any thoughts?
