Russian Made Big Muff Help!!!

My Russian made Big Muff just recently quit sending a signal and I have no idea why.

When the pedal is bypassed in my chain sound still comes through clearly but when active the pedal gets no response.

The light comes on but there is no tone or sound..

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Of course the store I purchased it at said they don't cover failure after 45 days and it has been close to 50 :hmm:

I just opened it up and did not see anything unusual

( unless the white wire that I assume was a ground has come undone it made no noise when touched though )

I bought it brand new via musicians friend.

I have it hooked up to a 1-Spot Power supply ( alone in the chain so it is the only thing getting power from the 1-spot )

I cant take it back because it is out of the 45 Day warranty period :hmm:

they told me to call EH personally?

As was mentioned earlier, the Russian-made Muff will not run on anything other than a 9v battery. Its not possible for you to run it off a 1-spot. So right there is your problem... The pedal is clearly a figment of your imigaination :ninja:

Simply for clarification....

My One Spot actually has the 9volt adaptor that is included... stock...
Unless maybe my Russian made EH Big Muff that looks like this:

Actually, I was fairly certain that wouldn't work either. Hope you filled out your warranty card and mailed it. Time to call EHX. They're cool dudes, they'll treat you right.

I did that :)

And just to keep you guys updated:

The Pedal works now....

The only thing I did was.. well nothing?

Everything Is set up the same way it was and I still power it with my 1-spot ( wtih the adaptor :) ) I am still contacting EH because I obviously don't need a pedal that has a mind of its own as to when it chooses to work...

Thanls for all the advice though! I appreciate it greatly!

I have (or had) exactly the same set up. Russian Big Muff with 1-spot. I got more ground buzz and noise when running it from the 1-spot than signal. Switch back to battery and it'll work fine.

I just wish I didn't have to keep buying batteries, it's the only pedal I own that can't be powered externally (without a mod of course).

I agree with you on the battery part. Thats the ONLY reason I switched the cost of 2 batteries covers the cost of the one spot...

In the future if I have nay other problems I will switch back to batteries but as for right now everything seems find.

My nyc big muff does this occasionally-- On mine, it's the switch. 99% of the time it works just fine, then that 1% it goes silent when activated. Long story short the switch is messed up somehow and if you lightly switch it with your hand or foot it is much more likely to go silent instead of wall-o-muff you should get, but a good foot stomp usually fixes it. Bypassed there was always sound- it only happened when engaging the muff, and the light always went on, even when it went silent.

I would still contact EHX, but it's something to keep in mind if this happens again- Try giving it a good stomp or two.

I actually think this is the problem now.
After I noticed my foot switch was little loose I decided to tighten it just slightly...

No sound again...

Loosen it a quarter turn....

Flawless sound...

Interesting to say at the very least. Considering all the points are correctly soldered and seem fine

i did have a similar problem with a B:assmaster pedal- when i opened it up i noticed the little blue box thing that connects the switch to the wiring wasnt secured in place fully - two of the little metal hooks that hold it in place were loose - so the actual switch wasnt always fully connected - needless to say just pushed the bit back together and made sure the hooks were tight and viola! no more problem.
That was a true bypass switch, i know some of the russian muffs are TB, so this could be the issue with yours.
