I put a medium, nickel, 5-string set of S.I.T. strings on my Music Man Stingray Special 5 HH a couple of days ago. These are fantastic strings. They are in the same category as other bright nickels such as DR Pure Blues, and Dunlop Super Brights. I don't find these as edge-y as the the other brands, but they definitely have some zing.
Prior to this, I was using SIT Foundations. These are also really great strings. They are more balanced and refined than the Rock Brights. I would definitely recommend those for R&B, pop, soul, jazz, etc. I needed something that worked better for my alt rock group.
One thing I really love about the medium weight, and something that is new to me, is the heavier D and G; 0.070, and 0.050, respectively. The extra heft adds some much needed beef to the notes on these strings. I don't know of other sets that offer this. I don't know of any other set that has 50, 70, 85, 105, 130 gauges.
They setup really well. I was able to straighten the neck quite a bit. There is a tiny bit of fret rattle under the B string with heavy plucking, but nothing that bothered me. The .130 works great on this bass.
I can't speak to the longevity on these, but they seem to be breaking in very nicely. If I get 4-6 weeks out of this set, I will be very happy.
Another unique thing about these strings is that the first wrap around the hex core is made from phosphor-bronze. It is then welded to the core. The final wrap is nickel plated steel. I believe the under-wrap is what makes it sound like they do. There is a slight drop in output along with that. Nothing that concerned me though.
