Saddles for a Bass VI project

Built a few guitars in the past, mostly teles and am putting together my first bass. Plan on making a Bass VI with a tele body and Dano short scale neck so I'll end up using the tele bridge with the three barrel saddles, compensated as well.

What's a good base metal for the saddles?

Modern ones use steel, older ones were brass and/or nickel plated. Quality ones use aluminum saddles.

Any thoughts?

I think you should use whatever material is the path of least resistance. Or whatever material you'd like to use. Tonally, it won't make a bit of difference which of the metals you've listed get used for the saddles.
