Hey all,

I have a Sadowsky NYC PJ 5 string and have been playing Sadowsky Blue Labels SS - standard gauge) since day one. I love everything about this bass, including the feel, tone, and play-ability of the strings. I got some extra sets with my purchase of the bass and I have really made them last...I think it has been over 2 years since a change. Now, it is time for a new set and I really like these strings...BUT...

The weak Canadian dollar plus shipping rates make it less than appealing to order more. According to the Sadowsky website, one set of strings shipped will run me about $60 USD (about $80 Canadian). Now, I will do this if I have to...but again...not terribly excited about the cost.

I am looking for an alternative string that has a similar tone and feel, but is more readily available in store. Any suggestions? Anyone else have a preferred string for their Sadowsky Metro or NYC?

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked into Club Bass? It's a Toronto-based online dealer who carries the Sadowsky brand.

Argh...replied to the wrong post! Thanks for this! I ordered 2 sets today for WAY less than I would have paid direct from Sadowsky. Great find and I will definitely order from them again for my other basses. Thanks again!

Hey @bigjames thanks for reading my mind - I've been polling folks I know who are familiar with the Sadowsky strings to see of they know of a set that is similar. I have ordered Sadowsky sets from Club Bass (good prices!), but I heard a rumour that Sadowsky are getting rid of the confusing blue/black format. Club Bass is clearing out all the Sadowsky strings, and the shop here in town hasn't been able to fill an order in a year.

I'm getting nervous the shops will run out before Sadowsky introduces their new line - anyone familiar with these strings have a good backup that feel and sound similar? Someone recommended the Dunlop Marcus Miller set?

I don't know about anything imminent with Sadowsky strings but they did, not too long ago, replace both the Blue and Black Label flats with a reformulated Blue Label flat - there's a thread of a few pages on this forum. Haven't played the Sadowsky flats, myself, but have been considering giving them a try.

EDIT: This is the thread I was thinking of - some comparisons with other strings (and the old Blues): Opinions on the NEW Blue Label Sadowsky flats

Don't know if that helps you (or if you were using the new or old Blues).

I think (but don't know) that Sadowsky might have recently changed who can carry their strings - a place I've ordered strings from that used to carry them doesn't anymore - I got the impression that they couldn't - but don't quote me on that.

Regarding possible new strings coming out, perhaps @Sadowsky can clarify.
