Sadowsky Metroline MM model

For the US market, I don't see a real advantage in a Sadowsky Metroline MM style bass. For people who like wide spaced fives, Sadowsky MM5 would be a great option.
Yeah, I guess it's not "the real thing" (tm). I kinda like the tone of this better. Maybe it's the tone knob.

The main reason I see no advantage for a four in the USA is that German Metrolines are about $1K more than a Stingray Special in the USA and probably about even in Europe, but are not higher quality or lighter. A five with a true Sadowsky style neck would offer something that cannot be had on a Stingray at any price with it full 19mm spacing at the bridge.
Looking at this video, I see the bass has an active bypass, like all Sadowsky's. As far as I know, all of the active Stingrays have no bypass and the passive Stingrays are quite expensive. I know the Tim Comerford model is over $4K. The short scale is around $2.5K.

Having a 4 string MM with the same pickup switching options as the EBMMSR 5H is kinda cool.
But I've never loved the necks on Sadowsky's. This is intriguing if I was looking for Stingray but I have that covered.

Good points Doc, but it did sound good, but Lars usually makes anything he plays sound good.
The active bypass is a genuine improvement over an actual Stingray, and so would a five string with 19mm spacing at the bridge and a wider nut (for people who like it.) If Warwick makes a Chinese version of this, I might have to sell something's and buy one.
Several cool features, the active passive option, the adjustable nut and the coil selection gives this bass some versatility.
True. Give Lars a rubber band and a cigar box and he'll break out a Hendrix cover.

Has some nice bells and whistles with great custom options. But to my ears ……it doesn't sound like a StingRay. It's missing that signature "bounce " to the notes.
Sadowsky doesn't sound like Fender or MusicMan. Sadowsky sounds like Sadowsky.

That's a nice looking bass! But I'm still waiting for a short-scale Sadowsky...
Now that they are being mass-produced overseas for a larger market, maybe there's a chance?

He might build you one at his NYC shop. He still makes a few himself.
I asked Roger years ago, and he said "Nope!"...
( of course, John Hall told me the same thing - "when hell freezes over" - in the early 1990s, and they've been popping out short-scale 4000-series like candy the last few years)
The thing about EB MM is that Sterling Ball has such an infectious love for his basses. Not measurable but I think it translates to why EB MM San Luis Obispo made basses have such a following.
The bass above is nice. But compare how Lars plays an EB MM bass in his other videos to the video above.
regarding the 19 mm spacing, I think you can adjust.
This guy has big hands but demonstrates how multi genre a MM (He plays Bossa Nova and straight ahead jazz towards the end) can be and the smaller string spacing is not that all bad.

If course a player can adjust if he or she chooses to. When it comes to basses that have borderline boutique prices, a player should not have to adjust. MM has chosen not to offer wider spacing and their basses are very popular. I have owned several myself, but I do like wider spacing and I am glad the option exists.

I liked the rubberized pickup cover that Lars mentioned? That seemed like a neat idea.
