Safe Sticker Removal

Hello fellow TBers,

I was hoping to get some suggestions on sticker removal, I am thinking of getting a certain used bass, and I noticed it had a bunch of stickers on the back. I wanted something safe that would not damage the paint. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get Goo- Gone. Its available at Home Depot and Lowe's.

I use lighter fluid, checking to see if it affects the finish in a discreet place first. If it does, consider using Goo-Gone, or some such commercially available product...or just use cooking oil, and rub it. The rubbing is what actually displaces the adhesive, and the oil prevents re-attachment to the surface. Wipe off with a soft cloth. You can also try orange oil products, they are less greasy, and actually may partially dissolve the adhesives.

Warm, soapy water, and /or Windex?

Let the liquid soak in in the sticker and dissolve the glue, then patiently apply some fingernail power.

depending on the finish water can work just fine might take a little more work but cirtainly cheaper

once the paper or plastic part of the sticker has gone then try margarine it lifts most sticky subastances nice, as it just a grease its just like being REALLY sweaty. but dont use it on soft finishes (like warwicks)

Isopropyl alcohol. Worked a treat on my (now fretless) ATK 300. Test whatever you're going to use on finish inside control cavity to see if it'll damage the finish on your bass, but IPA is OK on thick polymer finishes at least.

Definitely use Goo Gone. It'll take the adhesive off and shouldn't bother the finish any.

I've used it several times on electronics to remove stickers and it didn't cause any damage.

Goo Gone is pretty toxic so use gloves and ventilation. I realize a sticker removal is a small job, but still... don't play with it, it has benzene in it. I cleaned some cabinets with it and even thought he window was open, I got a little woozy.

If you have to do any scraping, use a plastic ice scraper like they make for auto windshields, and even then be very careful. Do NOT use any kind of metal blade.

Or use a guitar pick...why walk to the garage?

Pull up an edge with a dunlop tortex orange pick. It won't scratch the finish, and you can sometimes remove a sticker with just that. If it leave sticky gunk, goo gone works pretty well, and so does the naptha lighter fluid.

It's a little messy to clean off afterward, but vegetable oil melts the stick-em and doesn't hurt the finish. Just wipe it on and gently work the sticker off. If you have to, use a plastic edge (like a guitar pick). I've done dozens like this - just takes time, but leaves no scars.
