I think the target audience was different. The 'got milk?' campaign is specifically targeting a youthful demographic. The use of slang makes them better to relate to.

Exactly! =D I think its called lifestyle marketing, or something along those lines. A strategy where the company is selling a way of living as much as the specific product. Beer companies are really the master of this technique.
