Samick neck through bass need help identifying

Hello everyone,

Found a bass I may be interested on Facebook market place and need help with perhaps identifying what model it could be. It has zero model, serial number or “made in” markings on it. All my research pointed to maybe a GB 637 but those have 2x2 headstocks where this one is in line 4. (Plus GB I have seen are gloss and this is not). Then the next closest I could find was XBT 637. While that one has same headstock, they have a pickup toggle switch rather than volume, volume, tone pots. So again so close but still slightly different. Also gloss finish again in examples of those. I have yet to see a single image or one just like it. Always something slightly different like the examples mentioned above.

Pics are not mine, they are from the listing.

They are asking $430 Canadian, which I’m sure is pretty fair.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I’ll try asking in there. But that is the thread I found the two closest examples of what I’m looking at purchasing. One was identical in just about every way except the headstock and the other was right headstock, different color and the toggle for the pickups rather then 2x volume pots.

It is just so strange than not a single corner of the internet has one exactly like in the photos this person is selling.

Samicks are sometimes hard to nail down. Being the big manufacturer that they are, I often wonder if they may use some parts leftover from their name brand builds for their own. Hence the inconsistency. Still a quality build though.

So I picked it up for $400 CAD. It’s definitely got its dings and wear on it (to be fairly expected for something around the 89-94 era based off the version of Samick logo used on the headstock) and definitely needs a good cleaning but that will have to wait until I restring it. Pots were very scratchy and took a lot of fiddling just to get sound, but some contact cleaner took care of that and works and sounds as it should now.

One odd thing I have not seen before on bass before. Top horn seems carved/bent forward or possibly warped and not parallel to the neck ( bottom horn seems fine and in line)

Hi, this is for sure a Samick GB 637! I have the same bass myself and it is a great instrument. All the best from Sweden!/Roland
