Since getting my Sandberg TT about two months ago, it's all I want to play. It's definitely the nicest playing instrument I've owned. While I don't own boutique basses, I've owned plenty of US made Carvins, Fenders, and G&Ls. I wanted to find a P Bass (VS4) in the same platform (incredible neck, well contoured body, etc.) and came across this beautiful Marley Blue VS4 here on TB. Before it even arrived, another VS4 popped up that ticked a few more boxes for me (burst, roasted neck, fully passive) and so I'm turning this one around.
To be clear, there is NOTHING wrong with this bass. I love it honestly. It, like my TT, is a dream to play and the P pickup is wonderfully fat in that P bass way. I threw on some TI flats and brought it to one practice and decided right then I was going to splurge for the other one because this is likely a forever bass for me. It's got a great modern P bass tone that is nice and hard hitting. The voicing of the pickup is on the modern side of a p bass, punchy and solid. If you want the hollow woody P bass sound, it will get close by keeping it in passive and backing off the volume and tone knobs. The preamp is very neutral sounding with no noticeable difference when engaged flat. Cutting the treble and boosting the bass gives a great reggae dub sound (which is unusual for a P bass IMO). All in all, I can't imagine a more perfect modern P bass. The color on this thing really pops too! The Marley Blue is much prettier in person than the picture from the previous listing IMO. I took new pictures in the sun to try and capture it better. The bass is mint. The only visible wear I can find is some light markings on the pick guard that you can only see in the light at the right angle. Gig bag looks new (stock Sandberg gig bag) but I forgot to take pictures of it. Let me know if you want me to.
Previous thread is below. Seller listed it at 7.2lbs but it shows as 7.4lbs on my luggage scale. Wonderfully light! SOLD - Sandberg VS4 in Marley Blue
Price is $1385 and we split shipping. I just want to get back most of what I have in it to help cover the new VS4. I'm in central PA (16652) if anyone wants to meet halfway between here and Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, DC, etc.
Trades: I'm definitely looking for a sale but would consider a Sandberg (or similar quality) short scale or perhaps 5 string (must be under 8.5lbs). Feel free to send me other trade offers via PM.
