sansamp question

hey everyone, i was looking at websites about the sansamp bass driver thingy... i was wondering lieke xactly what does it do like do u basically just use your amp for tis power and this thing is an eq pedal or what? im not really sure anythign about it so if someone could explain what it can do it owuld be greatly appreciated. thanks.
