How to achieve an smooth tone for a solo in the style of Jimmy haslip without a fretless bass???

What's wrong with your regular tone?


Some guys like to throw chorus on for soloing. I don't really solo so much as "rear up" in the mix with chorus, or envelope, or phaser, or all of the above, with or without fuzz and/ or more gain.

I would like my solo to sound with a similar tone to this song...do yu know how to get that? which effects?

Cool track! The little solo 1.00 might be chorus + a little overdrive. Chorus is many and varied, it's some kind of modulation thing with drive anyway. The rest is just bass and fingers.

It can sound better with some mixing and effects? we are recording the drums at a studio.

Well, first I would lose that godawful kick drum synth thing ringing away under it.

Then get guitar to take his own damn solo a few bars later.

Sheesh.

Then I might up the volume on the bass a tad.

Maybe add chorus and overdrive if it needs it but the band sound is very electronic already so maybe just a touch of drive.
