The original SansAmp was designed to emulate the sound of a "recorded" amp without microphones and the volume required to do so. Sans is the French preposition for "without." We make a number of different products and I'm not sure which one you are referring to. I'm sure others will chime in.
The Bass Driver DI is one of our most popular pedals for bass guitar applications. It is a direct box that can be used in the conventional manner of interfacing a high impedance instrument to a low impedance source like a mixing console. It also has onboard amp and speaker emulation so you can send a tonally compensated output to the mixer vs the dry sound of your instrument's pickups unamplified. It can also be used as a stompbox into a traditional amp or power amp etc.
