SBL: Mohini Dey plays Primus

I don’t post much Mohini Dey anymore because a lot of her playing is just shredding and that can get boring, however, figuring out a Les Claypool line is about 5:30-6:00 minutes is very impressive. That said, remember Claypool plays this stuff and sings at the same time!

Mojini is terrific, but Jerry Was A Race Car Driver isn’t exactly like learning the hardest song ever ;).

Remember when Scott was just a nice guy giving lessons on a whiteboard? YouTube has turned all of our brains into mashed potatoes. If they made a Willie Weeks video, nobody would give a crap, but they have to keep making the same slop over and over to cater to the massive beginner/rock audience. "Jazz vocalist reacts to Alice In Chains!" Just shoot me now.

This was fun. Yes, the riff sounds harder than it is. But she's awesome none the less. If you want to hear less shredding and more soul from Mohini listen to her backing Willow Smith, with The Pocket Queen on drums. Their NPR Tiny Desk Concert was amaaazing. As another poster here pointed out it harks back to Joni Mitchell's amazing 1979 band that featured Pat Metheny and Jaco. You just don't hear amazing music like that as much any more.

Say what you will, she is a phenomenal player. I agree I would like to see her groove a little more, but that’s me.
Agree 100%
I am not always liking the music she plays, but her technique is impressive.

And when you hear her in an interview, she also seems to a nice person to work with.
She definitely deserves all the success she has (and even more)

I would have never thought I would be watching a guy clean a rug for 45 minutes.

I might have missed it, but I never really see interviewers talk about her mastery of konnakol and other Indian rhythms.
There’s not a lot about it but I’ve seen it mentioned. But her bass playing is the draw.

On another subject, I don’t understand why young people like to dye their hair gray. The gray comes quickly enough without dyeing.
