SBMM Ray34CA: White Pickup Cover?

Hi guys,

I've bought a SBMM Ray34CA (Mint Green), and I would like to change the pickup cover for a white one. The questions are:

- Is the pickup cover the same as the one of a USA MM Stingray? (Shape, screw holes...)
- Where can I buy that? I don't find anything!

Thanks in advance!

I've talked with the guys of SBMM and the answer was...

"That I cannot help you with. Try on Talkbass. I know that there are several people who have done this modification"

... please, help...
LOL, that's hilarious that they directed you to talkbass.

Does your model have the scooped ramp or the 2 bumps on the top? I know they don't all have the flat scoop.

Pretty sure the US MM's have the scoop. I'd look for a measurement from the bridge to the pickup to make sure it is the same. I don't see why it wouldn't be, but they may have changed it slightly, who knows. Then you should be fine if it matches the 2 bumps or the scoop, shouldnt matter.

Oh and maybe @SBMM can help.

Mine is like this one:

The guys from Ernie Ball replied this:

Replacement Ernie Ball Music Man white pickup covers are available for purchase through the distributor. We've attached their contact information below. They will be able to assist you with pricing and estimated lead times. The Sterling by Music Man instruments are produced by Praxis Musical - Sterling by Music Man so we don't have experience trying to install out parts on those instruments.

Now I'm waiting for the answer of the distributor.

Why no one knows the answer? >_<

I'd check out Invalid Link Removed

They have SB 14 pickguards and may have pickguards for Ray 34. Worth asking because if they don't, they might make one if you send yours as a template. I think that is how they got a template for the SB 14; a TB member sent theirs to copy.

What I get from that statement from EBMM is, they don't sell parts for SBMM guitars, only EBMM guitars. And they don't make OEM or aftermarket parts for the Sterling Ray34. It's kind of like protecting their line of instruments.

One thing you can do is paint the pickup or use a white epoxy finish. I'm sure there are aftermarket pickup covers that fit.

Hi, old post I know. How did you get on, I have an Antique White / Tort Ray 34ca and would like to swap out the pickup cover for white/ cream as well. Cheers

Hello everyone.

You can easily remove pickup cover from aftermarket MM pickups. I have done this with OLP pickup, they are "sealed" but not with glue, they are wax potted. It looks like plastic or something hard, but you can easily cut it with a knife on the edges and remove the cover. Or you can put it in the boiling water if you want to remove wax completely from the coils. But wax is good because it keeps windings of the coil sealed, so they don't oscillate and make feedback noise when playing at high volumes or distortions.

And about the white pickup cover you can find it here:

They are making custom pickup covers in various colors and for various basses olp, mm, jazz, p, etc.

Cheers!
