Ziricote is just such nice wood

That is a seriously beautiful guitar there!

I've really grown fond of ziricote during this build. It's not the easiest choice for a bent top, but every piece has totally unique grain and really comes to life with an oil finish. It's tough on the tools, though, I'm considering a set of new router bits after this build .

Like you, I play Stoner. And like you, I downtune to C Standard. We seem to have a lot in common.

There's more: In another thread you mentioned that you live near Duisburg. While I now live in Finland, I grew up in Gelsenkirchen, only a stone's throw from there, with a big part of my family living in Duisburg. It's a small world.

And yes, C-standard tuning rocks. It's low enough to be seriously heavy, but not so low that it loses all definition and it doesn't require extra long scale instruments or steel cables for strings.

Thank you! I love working with veneers and creating contrast through different woods. This particular veneer layer gave me a lot of headache, see SBO 22 - Ziricote Dream. I'm glad people appreciate it, makes it all worthwhile.

Totally agree! I just use Fender flatwounds, 40 - 100, on a 34" bass. I have to be a little careful with the low C to keep it from rattling against the frets, and it works fine. My bandmates dig my sound.

I had a lot of fun during the buildoff, and I never expected this build to do so well in the competition. I took it to band practice last Tuesday and it sounded great.

I would like to thank @Gary_M for sharing details and insights from his ziricote strat build and @ctmullins for sharing pics of his DC-build. A big thank you also to @Bruce Johnson and @Jeff Siddall for their advice on epoxy pore filling.

It was also great to see so many people commenting here in the thread or just following along. You're awesome.

Now I'll take a few weeks break from luthiery and then I'll continue with my Twisted Sister build, there's still a lot to do. Stay tuned!
