First off, I must say; I am just an old guy learning to play the bass. I have at least a half dozen books, have been watching all sorts of videos, been working through Jam Play, etc. I am a senior who is just enjoying the mental exercises, along with the pleasant sounds of a bass. I now have a Birdsong fretless on order. Anyway, I have been playing and working on scales endlessly, and I picked up something from StudyBass.com that caused a revelation for me. The lesson mentioned to play the notes of a scale randomly, rather in sequence. And Whoa! Songs are now coming to me like I can't believe. What a difference this has made for me.
