Schecter Model-T questions!

Hey everyone. I was debating on wheher to get the Schecter Model-T five string. I have some questions about.

How does the blend knob work? And has anyone converted it to a passive bass?

Also would this bass be good or would the new Schecter J-5 be better

The controls are volume, blend and stacked active bass/treble. The blend... in the centre detent you get both pickups on, clockwise you get the P, anticlockwise the J.

I have the 4 string, it's a fantastic bass although I don't love the 2-band. I am going to install a passive tone control and the semiparametric mids VMC module from EMG. I bought all the bits, I just need the right time to do it.
