Schecter stiletto elite or BC rich warlock NT

Well as christmas rolls around im naturally looking for a new bass and ive been given a 700 price limit. Both the schecter and bc rich caught my eye and i cant seem to decide. I havnt had a chance to play either as the sam ash by my house only had one left handed warlock, and no stilettos.. and the music store near campus only had 2 basses.

Which should I get? or is there a better option in my price range?

I had a Stiletto Custom and a Tribute L2500. The L2500 was superior in every way.

i own the schecter diamond series stiletto and love it. well strung with dr flats and low action, it almost plays itself.

I also have the Schecter and am very impressed with it. However, is that B.C. Rich made in Korea? I had a Korean B.C. Rich guitar for a while and it was a really nice axe. If the Warlock NT comes from the same factory, I doubt you could go wrong with it. Between those two, it would probably come down to personal preference and feel. The Schecter has a pretty narrow neck; I think the B.C. Rich has a wider neck.

The Warlock, obviously, has a more polarizing appearance---if at some point in the future you want to sell it, there would be a bigger potential market for the more neutral-looking Schecter than the Warlock.

Also, the Schecter has an active pre-amp, and I believe the B.C. Rich is passive---no batteries to worry about. (Not positive about that, but that's my recollection.)

Yes the BC rich is Korean made, and as far as used basses go parents are strange people and refuse to buy anything used. Im hoping to find a shop over thanksgiving break that has both basses.
Anyone have any idea how the pups and pre amps are on both basses?

The Schecter uses EMG HZ pickups, which are actually passive humbuckers; the preamp merely provides active EQ. The bass could be re-wired passive if you were so inclined. The preamps have switches you can set to pick at least the high EQ point, if you don't like the default one.

I don't know about the B.C. Rich.

The bc rich is active, and sounds pretty good. The Schecter is a great value. I also recommend you check out the Schecter 004, very cool bass. Basically, play every thing in your price range. Looks alone , IMO, gives the edge to the warlock. Also, I recommend checking out the heritage classic mockingbird.

Ive heard the warlock is a bit neck heavy, is this true?
Sadly i might not have a chance to try both basses, or either one, before i choose. The music store around campus is awful as far as bass choices go, I checked it out again yesterday and i saw 3 fender jazz basses and thats it. Hopefully Sam ash or guitar center have them in, thanks for all the replies.

I'm seriously GASing for a Schecter Stiletto Elite-5 in honey burst, it's gorgeous and reminds me of a Spector.

There is a nice cherry Elite 4 at the Easy Music Center down the street, and a translucent black one at the Hot Licks a block away. Both sound amazing (I played the cherry through a Krank stack, and the black through an Ashdown stack).

When going through Krank, I got more powerful deep tones, but it didn't sound half as organic and nice as the Ashdown stack... but playing through the Ashdown brought out the beauty of the sound to match the beauty of the looks of the stiletto.

Both were made in Korea, and both are gorgeous all-round.

On top of that, the neck is fast as all get-out, the string spacing is pretty nice, though a tad closer together than I am used to with my Epiphones. The action is pretty low right out of the box, and it's decent for slapping too, though you can't attack it as hard as you could with a SUB or Stingray.

Unfortunately the black one is cheaper by about a hundred dollars, and I don't like the black finish and black hardware as much as the cherry one. The black kinda masks the through-neck sandwiching that give the body class. Easy Music also had an Elite 5 in natural finish which reminded me of an ugly Carvin or Alembic.

All in all, get it.

And if your local stores don't have them, generally you can get them to order one for you for a modest fee, or you could check out Musician's Friend or Guitar Center's website. Elite 4 pricing online is *just* on the edge of your budget, but I know that MF gives free shipping on most orders over $99. It'll just take a couple weeks to reach you.
