I had the same problem with a pre III while trying out the Stat-b. Other than commiseration, I have no helpful information for you . I did pick up the Stat-b and have had no problems whatsoever with the basic pre it comes with.

Trying to sell my Stat B Set, but after letting it sit on the shelf for a while, I wedge the (single) pickup element into the bridge and get - no sound whatsoever. I assume INPUT receives the Schertler plug and OUTPUT receives the 'guitar' cable that goes to the amp. (Plugging those in in reverse produces a him from the amp, so that must not be the correct connection.)
Yes, installed a new 9v battery. The Preamp lights up its little lamp Green when just the guitar cable is plugged in to OUTPUT.
And yes, tried two different guitar cables, but the result is the same.

I don't know if it is just the angle the picture was taken, but it looks as if the end cork is hardly making contact with the bridge?

The photo is deceiving, but the cork does make contact with the bridge. I even tried rubbing a finger across the cork lightly, but still there is no sound from the amp

Those preamps are known to go bad, but also check both cables. The pickup is not fit correctly. The black end and the cork have to be flush with the bridge, ideally straight up and down. This means removing some of the cork end for a proper fit.

Not sure how much cork is safe to shave- without disturbing the microphone inside.
Will test the cables today. It could be that in winding the Schertler cable to fit inside their little carry bag, the wires broke.

Schertler says to leave 2-3mm of cork, so you can shave quite a bit.
