Hi, new here and just starting out on my bass journey. Searching online I found Scott Whitley and his advertised “definitive slap bass course”. He’s charging $99 up front and there seems to be no bass course as yet (this is 3 months ago) has anybody here had any dealings with him? I followed his socials and all i can see is him and his wife on some sort of extended caravan holiday and no sign of my bass course. Anybody got any info? Thanks, worriedly, Jason

Don't know.
Maybe personal problem, needs to get away.
In the meantime there are lots of lessons out there.

And this chap is my go to for learning stuff

He mentioned, in a post at the end of May, that he was going to take time iff from his Youtube channel only, but was continuing to work with his members. But now it’s September. If he was straight up and handled things in a businesslike manner, it’s his duty to inform everyone of any snags brought on by personal situations(and no, of course he doesn’t have to go into detail). Beyond that, why, in all these Youtube video cover pics(whatever the term is for them), are people posing against bad photoshop backgrounds, making stupid silly gestures and faces? Just what the hell is that all about? That kind of juvenile crap makes me not want to click on(besides any sensationalist clickbait vibe these things exude).

Hey folks! It's me - back from the dead!!

I can only apologise for the feelings of frustration, feeling let down and wondering, "have I been ripped off?" I never intended to cause any upset, and certainly not to deceive anyone. I'm highly embarrassed about the way things panned out last year, but rest assured - I am 100% good for my promise of delivering what I believe is a ground-breaking slap bass guitar course, albeit much later than originally planned!

So what happened? It's really a long story, but I'll save the full details for another post. The short version is that I burned out during the late summer of 2022 in a BIG way! I spiralled into a deep pit of depression that, once it took hold, left me physically, emotionally and mentally paralysed for many, many months. It was the hardest period of my life - the constant feelings of worthlessness, guilt, shame and hopelessness meant that each day was literally a battle to stay alive! Like I say, the full story is long, but these are the facts that matter here.

"Time is a great healer" and "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" are both quotes that have great relevance here. Time is indeed a great healer, and it was only through it's gradual passing, whilst simultaneously facing my feelings head-on (and the oceans of tears that accompanied them), that I was finally able to re-emerge and rebuild my life. And as in the second quote, I am now able to face the future with much more understanding and acceptance of who I am - including my limitations, but now in a positive light. I'm also aware that although I may have limitations in some areas, I have exceptional strengths in others! Accepting myself for who I am without comparing to others, along with learning how to properly steer my strengths and weaknesses, is my new path to success and happiness!

"I won't make the same mistake twice" as they say, and as such, I'd be VERY reluctant to ever put a course up for pre-order again - at least not without making it clear that there cannot be a deadline. Last year I genuinely believed my initial time-scale estimates for completing the slap course, were over-generous! To say I wasn't even in the ballpark is an understatement - I wasn't even in the same universe lol! The course production became ever-more involved, as I strived - without compromise - to create the course I had envisaged in my head for so long. What looked like a month, turned into two, then three.... I'm now aware that to create the course I promised everyone (including myself), I need MUCH more time! How long - I simply cannot say, and to even try to do so, would indeed be making the exact same mistake as I did back in the middle of last year.

What I will happily say, is that a lot of work is once again happening and has been for some time now! The progress is not always as quick as I'd like, or need it to be, but "it is what it is". My new mantra is "trust in the process" and knowing that if one keeps chipping away at a thing, the thing will eventually and inevitably get done.

One last thing I need to address is that of finance! Without the ability to work for months on end, I had no income whatsoever, which - as well as perpetuating my feelings of hopelessness - meant that my business outgoings went unpaid. All my subscription-based stuff like Adobe, Kajabi (my website/email/course hosting), my mailing list supplier, Zoom, Calendly etc - all the stuff I'd taken so long to meticulously setup to work seamlessly with each other - were all cancelled or de-activated! Because of this, many of my weblinks have stopped working - from PDF download links on YouTube, through to my website not appearing online any more. So anyone who's pre-ordered the course, simply won't currently be able to log into the members area.

The whole money thing - or lack of it - has been a never-ending sh*t-storm over recent months. I'll somehow manage to get everything back up and running, allowing me to get back to work, only to watch it all fall apart again a month later, when the bills once again bounce. This cycle of needing money to activate my online services so I can work on the one thing that could generate the income I need (the slap course), only to reach another bill day with an unfinished course and still no money and watch everything get de-activated again has been literally hell!

2024 - here comes the cavalry!! I'm extremely fortunate to have some extremely great friends all around the world as a result of my hard work over the years, sharing my knowledge and experience through YouTube etc. Law of average says that at least one of these friends might be pretty wealthy, and that at least one friend may be of an extremely kind, compassionate and generous disposition. But what are the chances of one of these friends being both those things?? Well, whatever the odds, I've been blessed to have worked with one such person who, over the 7 years that I've been bass-tutoring them over Skype, has become one of my greatest friends and we've been through a lot together during that time. We come from completely different worlds in many ways, yet we have so much in common, not least our mutual respect for each other.

Ok already - where's the Cavalry??! Ok, ok! :-D Starting in January, I'm entering into a working agreement with the aforementioned friend, which in reality is designed to allow me the gift of TIME! He realises the financial struggles I've been facing are what's holding me back from making real progress on completing my course and as such is going to cover all the costs outlined above on an ongoing basis, allowing me the freedom and peace of mind, to work on my course, my website, my channel and so on... He knows he can trust me to pull out all the stops, and I believe what will make him happier than anything, is to see me succeed!

So there we have it folks - all laid out on the chopping block for all to see lol. Keep checking YouTube, keep checking my website, keep checking my social media and watch out for emails from me. Things will really start to kick in once the new year arrives, so have patience until then - I'm NOT going underground again lol.

Thanks a million for your understanding, compassion and patience. Again, deepest apologies for the delays and more so for the complete radio-silence for so many months.

Speak soon,
Scott.
