Sealer Coats

Hi all,
I've modded the body shape of my '83 Hamer Cruisebass, to the discomfiture of a few of my bass-playing /bass-enthusiast friends... but I'm in the process of it now and want to reassemble the bass before continuing, to see how it fits me thus far. I have ergonomic issues, and want it to be "tight" and right before going on to shoot it. I may be going back to the shaping process after reassembly once or twice, before moving on to the finish. I'll do it a color- still deciding on that- but if I do I'll probably use Re-ranch cans and do it myself. I'm being cheap, but have decent skills...

So is there any general advice about sealers, etc before I get into this? Can I use a Tung Oil finish as a temporary sealer coat while I try out the work at band rehearsal, and then shoot over it after I'm happy with the shape? I'd just like to be able to use what I have already if possible, rather than buying stuff I don't really need. Of course I'll go get the right thing if this isn't it, but I'm asking all the dumb questions before doing something dumber...

I would just use a couple coats of nitro sanding sealer, to keep the body from getting discolored during your test phase. If you are going to use ReRanch products, then use all nitro for S&S, primer, color and top coats. I wouldn't use Tung Oil for the sealer, but JMHO
