Search results as POSTS, not threads?

Is it possible to do a forum search, and see the results as individual posts, not as threads? I want to be able to see the results displayed as individual posts, and sorted as most recent first.

This USED to be possible, but the search engine seems to have been changed a few months ago, and now I can only see results displayed as threads. And when I click on a thread it opens to the first post in that thread.

The search engine DOES show options to "Order By: Most Recent", and to check/uncheck "Display results as threads", but the options don't seem to work.

For instance, say I want to see any recent forum posts discussing the Fender JMJ Mustang Bass. I want to see any activity in the General Forums, For Sale, and under Ask a Pro! > Ask Justin Meldal-Johnsen...

I'll do a search for the keyword "JMJ", searching titles only, and searching in the Bass Guitar section, including child forums. Results specified as by "Most Recent", with "Display results as threads" UNCHECKED:

I get the search results as THREADS, not posts, and I get the SAME results whether or not the "Display results as threads" box is checked:

This USED to work! What am I doing wrong?!?

Narrow your search to specific forums rather than the entire BG side and you'll get better results.

For the heck of it I tried searching Threads and Posts with JMJ being my keyword. I unselected the child forums and specifically chose Basses, For Sale and Justin's own forum and the search returned 121 pages of posts and threads with the JMJ keyword.

I tried what you suggested, and a few other things…

First of all, I found that I am able to INDIVIDUALLY select the various forums and child forums only when using my phone or iPad. That option is not available when accessing the forums from my desktop computer. Interesting.

Anyway, the only way I can see individual posts at all is to deselect the "search titles only" option. If I search titles only, I only see threads. Otherwise I see a mix of threads and posts. And when I open a thread it opens to the first post, not the most recent.

I just don’t understand why Talkbass had to change their search engine. There should be a way to easily search for individual threads with a keyword in the title, most recent displayed first! It used to work that way!

In the case of a popular thread, I would get a long list of individual posts, most recent at the top.
