Second build, what do you think? 😬

Hi! Here are some pictures of mi second build, the "Hosco" bass, "hosco" means rude or unpleasant in spanish and i think that name goes well with the bass appereance. The body was made with red cedar, laser cut plywood frame and backplate, and an acrylic pickguard (also laser cut). The neck Is made out of white oak...i think, and the fingerboard Is walnut, the inlays are pieces of 1/4" flexible copper pipe filled with baking soda and cyanoacrylate, The tuners and string holder are mild steel with some Allen screws (I had 3D printed some handles for the tuners, but they were very uncomfortable and I changed them for M5 Allen screws ). The bridge Is made out of Tzalam wood and the nut Is aluminum (now all my files are clogged) and the pickup Is one of those chinese guitar humbuckers. The body and the neck were finished with ten layers of tru oil.

You'll notice that the neck profile Is almost a square, The truth is that it is the first neck I built and it is also the final submission of a subject I am taking at school, so I did not dare to carve it by hand and I did not have any other roundover cutter that wasn't 3/4" lol, although i'ts quite thick, I like the surface where the thumb rests to be flat, maybe it's just necessary to lower it a little next time

Cool bass! It reminds me of a Steinberger but if Ned designed those basses within the last few years instead of in the 1980s. What's the scale length?

My disproportionately large thumb, which on normal necks is always having to find ways of getting comfy, took one look at that neck profile and was immediately smitten YES.

Thanks mate! I hope It never gets stolen, but that's a good point!
It's a bit uncomfortable to play It seated, but it's great standing, it's kinda light so It feels weird at first, but once you get used to It's really nice. The sound Is bright, It goes really well with chorus

That's a great observation haha, I'm trying to get knurled screws so I can do the adjustment by hand, but so far I haven't been able to find them in screw shops

To stay with your theme of DIY 'making due' using hw store hardware... if you have a drill-press, you could first hog-out a Forstner-bit cavity in a chunk of wood that would isolate/hold in place a control knob, and then drill out the knob inner hole big enough to allow machine hex-head bolts to fit inside the cavity. Then, fit (and superglue) small washers on the bolt. I've used small brass washers from the hw store, or you might be able to find a plastic or metal spacer there that would fit. The spacer would need to fill the length of the knob hole to the end of the bottom side of the knob. (creating a tight shaft) You will need longer bolts than the ones you have - probably 1/4" longer as that is how deep the knob hole goes. Finally - slide the control knobs on and cinch down on the set-screw. I've not tried this personally, but I think it could work.

Thanks man! Those Headless Steinberger were the main inspiration to build this Bass

The scale lenght Is 34" and the overall Bass lenght Is 95cm
