seeking synth patch - katy perry teenage dream

im doing a hardcore cover of teenage dream, and i'd love to have an approximate synth patch of the giant drop at the beginning of the chorus. for now ive placed a big 808 bass drop, but its not the same effect.

the sound in the track is more similar to the big synth drop in the beginning of "tom sawyer" by rush, which if im not mistaken is a moog taurus.

i am absolutely dreadful at analog synthesis, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

My band plays a lot of Rush, but no Katy Perry. Not sure about the Katy patch, but the "growl" sound at the beginning of Tom Sawyer is actually an Oberheim OB-8, not a Moog Taurus.
Almost any good analog modeling synth (or preferrably a real analog, if you have one) can get close, but if the Tom Sawyer growl type of sound is what you are after, the best emulation I've heard so far is from my real analog Dave Smith Prophet-'08 - namely the "Tom Sawyer" factory patch. This patch also comes loaded in the Dave Smith Tetra, and I believe its in the Dave Smith Mopho as well.
I have also been able to get pretty close to this sound with my Moog Taurus-3 and Roland JP-8000 synths. Its just a simple filter-sweep patch.
What synth are you using?

id be using any soft synth from logic 8. all very capable. sculpture can pretty well make anything, but thats a very complicated synth. there are much simpler ones.

if i had the basic values to plug into the filters, i might be able to figure out a decent approximation.

Hmmm, I wouldn't even know where to start with a soft synth - even my va Roland has a knob interface. Does logic 8 have a forum where you could ask fellow users about a filter sweep patch? Sorry I couldn't be very helpful with this one...

I found a few clips to help get you started. Wow, it looks like logic 8 can get the analog sounds, but I've never seen something so hard & non-intuitive to work with! Good luck!

i normally use a mono synth for little stuff. i pull up patches for pads and whatnot. occasionally ill pull up the frequency modulation synth and hit random. fun noises in there.

soft synths can be a pain. something about physically grabbing each knob or slider is just SO much easier.

I have successfully created an almost identical synth sweep sound that can be heard on the song Tom Sawyer using a Roland JP-8000. I have saved in in a sound library using WinJpLib and I am willing to share it for anyone who would like it.
