I may go - I've applied for a press pass so I'll let you know if I get one - I'm not sure if I'll make it to be honest as I'm just so busy!
Thanks for the thoughts on what I should do with my Thumb bass - I do want to sell it as Alex at the Gallery reckons I could get between £800 and £1100 for it - which is what I paid for it actually... I want a Jazz type bass so I'm aiming for Sadowsky, if I can find one I like. I'm going to get Martin to give the bass a once over before I put it on the market - I'll keep you posted - I'm not in a rush to sell it - but hey it'll exciting to get a new, very different bass from my other two... I'm still happy with just three basses tho - it's enough for me
Lastly - I saw Dominique DiPiazza last night with John McLaughlin (at The Barbican) and it was an awesome gig - I was lucky to hang with Dom a bit afterwards - we've met a couple of time before - and he's not only a wonderful person but an incredible player - so I got a bit noodly today and made this video - with the Sei of course...
I'll keep you posted on things as they progress.

Hey all,
Just phoned up Martin to see how my bass is doing. He's hoping to have it done by the end of the month with a little luck. It apparently got help up at the finishers as they are currently going through expansion and everything got put on hold for 2-3 weeks. I don't think I would have been told this unless I asked so if anyone else has a bass there, it may take a little longer than expected.
They are hoping to have the bass back with Martin by the end of the week where he will start to put on the black Hipshot hardware and the Demeter/Kent Armstrong.
It's back to the waiting game - but the end is in sight!

I can sympathise with you about the waiting but remember the Guniness advert - good things come to those that wait! It will be worth it in the end.
I have ordered a new toy for my fretless, A Lexicon reverb and effects unit. It is only the MX200 but should give me some buttons and sounds to play with. It will hopefully arrive on Thursday so am looking forward to that.

Keep hanging in there...Matthew is right the end result will be worth the wait. FWIW I found the final stages amongst the hardest as it is so near, yet so far. Sounds like Martin is trying his best to get it turned around quickly for you...
Just hang in there man - you won't feel like it was 'too long' after you get it - it just makes that day all the more special...

After a bit of thinking I decided to swap my USA Fender Urge Mk1 for something a little more traditional. I just fancied a change really....

Unbelievably (nay, totally unbelievably) they had a James Tyler bass in stock as a commission sale. Tyler basses are very rare and have been used by the studio bassists in Nashville for at least the last 10 years. I've only seen one advertised for sale before, ever (and I've read a lot of adverts).
So my understanding and totally supportive wife arranged for me to buy the bass (I still have to sell the Urge though). Martin is going to give it a once over before it leaves for less-sunny climes. So it'll be with me next week.

Yay! Got my Sei at last. Mine is the secondhand Series 2 single cut six that Martin had in the shop recently. 33" scale, Nordstrand pickups, Mike Pope preamp. Boy does this make a fantastic noise.

I've just been looking at the Sims Custom Paint stuff on the net and a few Sei's are on there. I spotted the "Rampant Rabbit" and the Sei 8, not sure on the other one.

Gonna play catchup tomorrow and give out a couple of new membership numbers. My fretless is on there 7 - check the one out with the odd fretlines

Well I'm finally up-to-date on the club admin. 3 new membership numbers issued (I'll post an up-to-date membership list tomorrow evening.)

Big news for me is that I may well be emigrating to Ireland in a couple of months.
I'm thinking exactly the same about my Wick Thumb 5 as Mike - To sell or not to sell that is the question! It's a 91 in excellent condition and prob worth about £1200. Lovely, lovely instrument but weighs a ton and just not getting used. I've owned it for around 10 years and I'd only be hanging onto it for sentimental reasons.
Anyhoo - for all those waiting - keep the faith. To us owners - we are lucky lucky people. To those new parents out there, when is the kiddie Sei being ordered

Fretted one is 2005, cream, 35" scale, 24 frets, birdseye maple fingerboard, tiger maple neck, Celinder preamp, DiMarzio pups.
Fretless is 1999, cherry sunburst, 34" scale, 24 marked frets, ebony fingerboard, birdseye maple neck, Aguilar preamp, Bartolini pups, blue side LEDs.
Two pics (from Sei site for now), others to follow idc.
Thinking about having a 7-string fretted built. Need to book a day off work to chat options. Any advice welcomed!

Back in the mid '90s, I won Bassist Mags Bass Of The Year competition and my prize was a custom built Sei Bass.
I went and saw Martin and he built me a beautiful Flamboyant Headless 6 string. It has amboina facings, triple-coil bartolinis etc. I think it could have been serial no. 25. The construction of the bass was featured in monthly articles in Bassist.
Anyway, I used the bass regularly for about 5 years for live work and recording and it was unbelievable.
Unfortunately, I had some very difficult personal circumstances in 2001 and had to raise a lot of money quickly. Like a nob-head I had to sell the bass (along with everything else I owned!). This is one of the biggest regrets of my life, but needs must - and it was the right thing to do at the time. Anyway, enough of my sob story....
Does anyone know the whereabouts of this bass, who owns it now, etc? I'd love to think that it was in good hands, regularly used and not just gathering dust or hanging on a wall!
