Hi There!

I bought a 210 cab a few years ago. Good sound with my Genz-Benz ML200 head and four string. Nice and tight sounding. The construction of the cab doesn't inspire much confidence, though. I was going to replace the speakers with some Peavey/Sheffield/Eminence but the stock speakers were 6 bolt! Okay, I figured I would drill out 8 for each speaker and put the T-bolts in from the back side and mount the speakers. I unscrewed the speakers and saw they used wood screws to mount the speakers! Can you say CHEAP? I started drilling into the plywood and that's when I realized it was separating and the inner layer was deteriorating. I decided not to waste my time on mounting my speakers so I rotated the stock 6 bolt until each screw was into good wood. Had I not seen the damage who knows how I'd feel about the cab (until a speaker worked the wood and screw to death)? Now that each screw is in good wood, it makes a fine practice cab. It's not very roadworthy, though. I used to keep it set up at home, gigged an outdoor jam with it, and now keep it at a buddy's house for jammin' there.

On a related note, I purchased the EMPTY 210 cab from eBay for $90 ($60 + $30 S&H). They sent me a LOADED 210 cab which was $120 ($90 + $30 S&H). Until I opened it up, I thought I skinned 'em! Now I figure they saw the bad plywood and hid it with the speakers.

Perhaps I was the exception to the rule as far as Quality Control goes? I don't know. I run an Avatar 210 that I loaded with Madison Knights. Much nicer craftsmanship, but at a reasonable price. But you know what? Even the Avatar's speakers were screwed in!

I give up! You get what you pay for.

If your going with the Seismic route, go with two of their 215 cabs, and the LH1000. That would make a sweet rig. Their 215 cabs are sealed cabs, and quite punchy. They also use a real plywood front baffle, and the rest of the cab is MDF. I bought and tried out a pair, and they sounded quite good. Definately will get you out giging, when your ready, and will have enough power to be heard with any drummer.

I was surprised to see that Seismic Audio now has videos on YouTube that demo their cab offerings. I found it funny that the bassist always made a point to say that they're great for the "working musician". The best part of it, though, is that they don't actually seem too bad. As a beginner, they seem like a nice choice. I don't need any more cabinets but if they ever make a compact and lightweight 110 or 112, I'm all over it.

I have used a pair of their 215 PA cabinets with pretty good results. We only ran an acoustic guitar (miked and direct) with a pair of vocal mics, though. They were powered with a cheap powered mixer and it worked well for being as cheap as the system was. I recorded that set with my Zoom H2 and the quality is not too bad. It was my first time using the recorder in a band setting and it still is listenable, in my opinion.

My brother also has some experience with Seismic Audio Speakers. He bought a Carvin X100B (his dream guitar amp) and needed a cheap, small cab to use it with. He found a Seismic Audio 212 at Music Go Round in Davenport, IA for about $70 and tried it out. He loves the amp and enjoys the cabinet. I haven't talked to him very much about the cab (it's all about that amp!) but he hasn't complained at all about it. How can you, for that price?

He's going to bring his amp up to our parent's house this weekend so I can finally hear it in person. I doubt that he'll bring the cab because we have a bunch of 412s at the house. I'm excited to do some jamming. It'll be a weekend full of tubes -- my Ampeg SVT-VR and his Carvin X100B. Hopefully my dad will join us and roll out his Bogner tube amp. I want to test out the SVT-VR against a couple of tube guitar heads. :D

I have the Seismic Audio 4x10 and 1x15 paired with a Behringer BXT1800--The sound shakes the house! I use my SX Ursa PJ Bass and My Ibanez EDB 600 for Praise and Worship,Funk and Rock and have NOT been disappointed! you be happy with your purchase! And yeah, that is a cool username!
