Went to use my D'Addario drill bit peg winder on the modern-style tuners installed on the Yamaha TRBX504--and it did not fit (the slot was too narrow.) I've used this for some time on guitars and on cloverleaf tuners with no issues. Ordered some other drill bit peg winders from the big A, reviews below.
1) D'Addario drill bit peg winder (already owned)
Pro:
- Fits almost everything else.
- Has cross-style interior notches to fit various size tuners well.
Con:
- Does not fit modern Y-style tuners (at least not Yamaha.)
2) D'Addario Pro-Winder (already owned)
Pro:
- Fits everything I've tried (including the Y-style)
- Also has string clipper and acoustic bridge peg remover
Con:
- Not compatible with an electric screwdriver.
3) Ruiwaer drill bit winder
Pro:
- Fits both cloverleaf and Y-style tuners.
- Appears it would be fine for guitar tuners.
- Cross style interior similar to the D'Add bit.
Con:
- Loose on the tuners
- Back end of the hex post is too long from the end to the snap-in notch--it will not snap into my black&decker electric screwdriver. Falls out if tipped. Will need a mm or two filed off the back.
4) D'Addario Bass Pro-Winder
Pro:
- Fits both styles bass tuners
- Also has string clipper
Con:
- Will not fit guitar tuners.
- Has same bridge pin remover as the guitar winder--not likely to be useful for bass.
- Not compatible with electric screwdrivers.
5) MusicNomad Grip Bit
Pro:
- Fits both styles of bass tuners.
- Appears to be fine for guitar as well.
- interior of socket is rubberized.
Con:
- Single wide slot a bit wobbly on cloverleaf tuners.
The Pro-Winders work fine, no need really for anything else. If you want a bit for an electric screwdriver, I'd probably recommend the MusicNomad Grip Bit. I'll also be looking at filing the D'Add bit to get the Y-tuners to fit, as I've been using that with good results for a long time.
