self defence, in a home invasion situation, without you using a firearm

Call police? Really? A baton? Get a clue

Gun is the only answer, because guess what if the criminal had a gun (I know I damn sure would) a baseball bat or a phone and 15 mins ain't gonna level the playing feild.

15 mins? Wow the cops are fast were you live.
I could leisurely walk to the cop shop and drag a cop home with me kicking and screaming before a squad car got to my place. :scowl:

.45 ACP or 12 gauge.
That is why we have a 2nd amendment.

I believe there is another about when seconds count the police are only minutes away. My preference is .40 smith, 12 gauge and 45-70 depending on which room I'm in... someone's in my house uninvited I figure they are not there to make friends.

the fold up batton is illegal in Australia

You are worried as if home invasion was legal.:D

Also, it's funny how many people post in a thread without reading half of the thread title.:p

I have a short but thick and heavy piece of wood next to my bed. Good for keeping an optimal distance in short range, good for swinging and crushing skulls. But being recently awaken, I could probably be easily disarmed by a professional intruder and have my brains spilled out to the floor.:atoz:

But my choice would be a tazer or stun gun. I'd like my opponent on the floor peeing his pants instead of bleeding out of his brains.:D

Guard Father Auto Spikes in various locations. Go for the head.

Intruders in your home is no joke. Take them out.

See thread : "self defence in a home invasion situation without a firearm"

I know, I'll tell them to use firearms.

Great effort guys

As far as I'm aware, Australia is fairly similar to the UK in terms of firearms laws. You just need a permit, shotguns and rifles are fairly easy to come by with only pistols (with some exceptions) & fully automatic weapons being illegal.

Muzzle-loading pistols are legal here, I should have some flintlocks lying around the house for protection :D

You can be armed to the teeth and still find your self unarmed sometimes. Murphys law.
My first line of defense is heavy fire grade doors and large long heavy door bolts. An armed security system that flips on every light inside and outside when it goes off after that. The better I can see the better I can assess the situation. Then I have two options depending on how the intruder reacts. Firstly I barricade myself in whatever room I'm in. If they continue to go after me I know with little doubt hes after not just stuff but ME. I Keep an ASP collapsible baton and flashlight handy. I chose collapsible batons because they're lightweight, usable in close quarters when closed and can be used to block, hold, strike and if necessary kill. I keep a Glock Model 17 in .40 S&W with a fingerprint lock as an ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT ONLY. I don't want to start a **** storm but a lot of guys not necessary here talk big about just opening fire in a home invasion scenario. If you've never tried to hit a target under stress and fear, and it will git you. Good luck. Also the risk of colateral injury is too high. What if your child panics and runs across the living room as you open up with several rounds intended for your target.

But the best 3 things I can say to do.
HIDE - Don't be a hero, hero's get shot. your stuff is replaceable, you are not.
SECURE - Get good locks and windows, get a solid locking bedroom door. Make yourself hard to get to
ESCAPE - Get as far as possible from anybody causing or intending you to cause harm. If you have a phone call 911 if not find the nearest well lit street or avenue.

Read the OP. I will give you that clue.

That said, I didn't know ASPs were illegal, and I assume tasers are as well. Get a BIG dog. ;)

While I did NAND I believe others have read the OP. a fire arm is the only logical choice. Sorry!

Your taking a HUGE chance thinking a sticks gonna save you. But that's up to you. I guess the second best option is probably also illegal, one of those police style stun guns, that shoots the darts, keep distance between yourself.

If your serious about it get serious, if your not serious don't waste you time. .
