Wouldn’t mind a bit of opinion from people out there on a situation. I’m looking to move down to two basses, a 5 string and a 4 string. Currently I have Reflex 5HH, a Stingray 4H, and a USA AVRI 75 Jazz.
Reflex is excellent but has two flaws that are pretty big for me: due to body size and shape, the strap pin placement is around the 15th fret rather than around the 12th - means the neck feels longer but more importantly it means I have to play the bass at more of an angle to be comfortable. Second is that due to the mahogany block and the rosewood neck it’s super dark. Just doesn’t have that wide clarity my Stingray does and I can’t keep buying new strings every 4 weeks to keep the bite. Would want to get a Stingray 5 to replace it.
Stingray SR4 H is a great specimen but would be redundant with a 5 string. Sounds open, clear, and wide with the Nordie 4.2 and John East pre - love that combo.
Jazz is awesome and the only Jazz that has suited be - grindy, sweet 7.25 radius neck, lots of snarl and attitude.
Of them I’m most happy keeping the Jazz as my 4, but whether I just sell the Stngray and be happy with the Reflex or sell the Reflex AND the Stingray to get a Stingray 5
Ugh, need some external input to get me out of this spiral! I’m trying to figure if I’d regret the Reflex being sold tbh.
Any help greatly appreciated!
