Sennheiser EW 172 G3 or Line 6 Relay G50

Hey All,

I am having a real hard time making a decision between those 2. Upgrading from cheap tone sucking JTS system that has served for almost 2 years. Looked around and saw that few Line 6 owners got dropouts with this system. Few others say that the Line 6, being a digital system, is far superior to the Sennheiser system sound wise.

Living in Israel, my last options are - getting the G50, and risk with no service option since it is not imported here regularly, or getting the Sennheiser, and at least have the option for service from the importing company (even though i will not buy it from them due to huge margin in costs - 30% less buying the same frequency range unit through Thomann, including all tax and customs..)

Did anyone here have experience using BOTH systems, and can let me know which system performs better overall? Is the Sennheiser system worth spending the extra money?

I want to make the upgrade already but can't decide....

I've never used the G50, but I've had a bad experience with the Line6 V70 mics from the same range. We ordered four V70s and two of them were faulty out of the box (one hissed and the other kept dropping out). The rumour is that Line6 simply can't keep up with the demand, and their quality control has dropped through the floor as a result. When they work, they're absolutely fantastic systems, but unfortunately it seems that roughly 1 in 3 rolling off the production line don't work at the moment.

As for the Sennheiser G3, I used one last week. It was fantastic. The wireless was true, never hissed or popped and represented my tone really, really well. I tried using the XLR out of the unit straight to the board, and also the 1/4" jack into a DI'd amp. I slightly preferred the sound of the jack/amp/DI, but the difference wasn't huge. My only complaint was that my very bottom notes (I was playing my 5 string) were a little thin, but that was easily remedied by adding a little bass with my EQ.

If you buy a Sennheiser from the UK or Germany, the Israeli distributor may not be legally required to service the unit, since they did not sell it.

I've played both and I think the Sennheiser is much more accurate, the line 6 sounds compressed.
After checking them both out, I bought the Sennheiser with my hard earned cash.

You're right, but at least I can pay for service if i need to, While with the other product I will not even have the option...

Based on what you all said and the other things I had to consider, looks like the Sennheiser is the way to go for me.
