Set up for a Beginner in Boston

Hey guys, so I am completely new to the bass and instruments in general. I just picked up what seems to be a mid to late 80's Peavey Fury and I am in need of a set up. I will be putting new strings on and the current strings are rather high on the bass. I am a college student so the more affordable the better :-), but I also want a decent job done. I am local to Boston, MA but I am willing to drive a good amount for the service. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi there. Wow it has been a long time since I have been on. I had to put my bass dreams on hold for a little while I finished up school. Now I am ready to jump on the wagon again. I am looking for someone who can help set up my bass preferable in the Boston area. Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the heads up. I went ahead and read up on some reviews. I went ahead and got new strings put on the bass. However, I am getting no sound at all from the bass. The output jack was a little loose so I tightened it but no dice. Where do you suggest I begin my trouble shooting?

The output jack has spun out, & broken one or both of the wires soldered to it.

Edit: Is this an active bass? Is there a battery compartment on the back?
