Hey all I've recently started playing with pedals on my bass and wanting to get some feedback on what others more experienced than me would suggest. I mostly have been looking at what effects my favorite pro bass players use and try to get a few pedals to get a unique sound. I play punk/heavy rock so wanted to see what pedals you thought would be good to play live with. Right now I have DD-3, Bass Driver, Super Octave OC-3, and a Death Metal distortion pedal. I was thinking about getting the Aphex 1404 Punch Factory Optical Compressor but wasnt too familiar with it to know its pros/cons, suggestions?

You should check out bongomania's compressor blog, he's the compressor man who's has done extensive reviews on compressors. As I recall the Punch Factory was not one of his favorites.

As far as what else you might need, is there a particular sound that you are trying to go for? I could recommend a ton of different things that could fit into punk or heavy rock, but it may not be what you are looking for. I'd also need to know what your budget is, so that I'm not suggesting middle-of-the-road pedals if you are looking to make a major upgrade to something much more expensive, or if I'm suggesting super expensive/rare stuff when you're looking for something cheaper and functional.

As far as sound i dont want to "Copy" but have a hybrid of Justin from Tool to Tim from Rage, but my band plays punk-heavy rock so i'd like to keep that in mind.
Also can you explain exactly what the compressor will do? Doesn't it just make a note resonate longer by raising the sound level up as the strings stop resonating?

A good rule of thumb: If you don't know what the pedal does or can't immediately think of an application for it, don't get it.
That being said, you have octave and dirt covered so at this point I would go for a wah. Commerford uses a Dunlop 105q so I'd say that's a good place to start.
I'd replace the Death Metal with a nice boutique fuzz
