Seymour Duncan Hots or 1/4 Pounders?

Looking to mod my Jazz and was considering one or the other. Pros, cons, any comments?

Hots - have them in all my jazz's and P-J's. I find the QP's way too scooped.

I have Duncan STK-J2 hot jazz stacks in my Warwick Corvette Standard. In comparison to the stock MECs, I get deeper lows and more growl. They have pretty hot output too, perhaps hotter than the ol' MECs, and that's saying something since those MECs were chili hot.

I'd go with the hot stacks over the QPs for one reason and one reason only: hum cancelling. I can always raise the pickups and turn up the volume on my amp for more loudness (I keep the volume knob on my bass maxed out), but I simply cannot have hum or hiss. So I would totally go with hot jazz stacks hum cancelling pickups over the quarter pounders.

Yupper, Hots in the Jazz fer sure. I like the QP's in a P bass with round wounds.

Ditto - I had a P/J with Quarter Pounders that was all high-and-low end with nothing in-between. Sold it off, and later on purchased a MIM Jazz that I've modded electronically with SJB-2 Hots that are perfect: nicely balanced with a slight bump in the low-mids and a complexity in the sound that was totally blown out of the water in the P/J by the sheer volume of QPs.

I have a PJ with both ... yep originally the bass had QPs in both positions and lacked the bridge growl.

Put a Jazz HOT in the bridge and it makes for a great combination.



... Never tried it in a Jazz though
