Shielding

Hi guys

I've recently bought new pickups and pots/wiring etc for my MIM jazz bass, and I'm thinking of shielding the cavities/back of pick guard etc, but I'm looking for you help and advice.

Am I best off using conductive paint or should I use copper shielding? Also, once I have done the shielding, I understand I should have an earth connection? What is the best way to do this.

A step by step guide would excellent if there is one out there!

Cheers

Copper tape is a much better material to use, because it has a better continuity than conductive paint.

The grounds just need to be continuous everywhere. It doesn't matter how you do it, physically.

There are hundreds of shielding tutorials out there, including a few in the stickies.

I would suggest shielding paint for the body cavities and copper tape for the pickguard. Just my recommendation
Any particular paint you would recommend?

Thanks

Unless you go to an industrial supplier, there are really only two or three options. Most people use the StewMac paint, but one or two eBay shops have cheap versions. I wouldn't recommend using paint, as it is nasty to work with, and does not do the job as well as copper tape.

There are two advantages to using paint -- it conforms easily to oddly shaped surfaces, and it's rather quick. That said, I recommend using copper tape, it's worth the investment of time.

I use Cupro-cote which is a copper based paint. It conducts very well, not as well as solid copper tape but close enough

The bad side: it is bloody expensive.
