Shin-ei Companion FY-2

Shin-Ei FY-2 Companion Fuzz clone FY2 - Fredric Effects Unpleasant Companion

That was a decent clone but in all honesty, it's a horrible sounding fuzz and unless you're in a Radiohead tribute I would avoid.

YMMV :hiding:

Agreed. I spent a great deal of time looking for an authentic FY-2, not to mention some good money to obtain it. When I finally got to play with it and after playing National Anthem a hundred times for a couple of weeks, curiosity was satisfied.
The ultimate "one trick pony". I found it too blah even at it's lowest gain settings. And, of course, it's uncontrollably noisy at it's highest gain. Sold it for a profit and moved on.
Not to discourage you but search this site or the Internet for demos of different bass fuzzes. There are more versatile and better fuzzes out there, IMO.
Or who knows, an FY-2 clone might be the one. Crazy! YES!

I think that maybe the Wattson FY-2 is the best that I have heard at youtube...

But I understand your point, it sounds great at one particular setting and thats it...

I have a DiceWorks Finale, and it has like 20 different setting all sound great, but they all lack something that the Shin Ei has, that robotic feel almost cold.

I've seen more then one builder gripe about how much of a PITA the FY-2 circuit is to work with.

While I've never built one,...it is one of the more complicated Fuzz circuits judging from the schem I checked out.

I'm certainly considering it as the basis for a fuzz pedal though,...but with a boost circuit and a tone stack added to it.

That's in the short term future though,...I still got work to do on other circuits.
