Shipping LARGE cabs.

I'm considering getting rid of my NV425 (Just want something smaller) but I really don't know what it would take to ship this beast. Especially since I don't have the boxit came in anymore. I really doubt there's someone in the area that even knows about bergie cabs so local sell is unlikely.

HOw do you guys ship these monsters? Beg for boxes a Guitar Center? How much does it usuall cost? This cab is around 80 lbs.

Fedex will ship it without a box. I've sent a 75lb Avatar 2x12" cab before without a box without any problems.

Shipping without a box is really risky- there is a good chance you will end up with something impaling a speaker. Even if you have insurance, getting replacement under it is a pain. I usually just beg for boxes at the local music store when I need to ship something big- they usually are willing to help you out because tehy throw the stuff away anyway. If you are buyign some strings or something that helps . An 80 lb cab will cost around $50-80 to ship depending on several factors. I have found fedex to be the best to deal with for large and heavy objects.

I would NEVER ship something without a box. I work for FedEx air and I see what comes through the system every day. I guarantee the skin would take a beating. Take it to Kinkos, they will box it for you, and you can ship it from there through FedEx. I've also seen boxes for sale at U-Haul.

Yeah, I wouldn't dare shipping without a box unless the buyer wants to save a few bucks on a box.

The UHaul idea is good or any local mover will have boxes for sale. A wardrobe box cut down should fit or couple of large boxes taped together. You may want to get second box or a couple of flat pieces of carboard to slip between the box and the speaker grill just for xtra prtection.

I've seen people do this aswell. While I don't think I would ever do it, i've seen people attach a piece of wood over the speaker grill to protect to speaker to avoid "impalement". Just a thought...

If shipping is prohibitively expensive then try Forward Air if you live close to an airport. My experience has been if its something big enough you can put on a pallet (not really necessary) then its the cheapest and fastest way to ship. The buyer will also have to pick it up at the airport warehouse. Its a great way to ship heavy stuff. You can check cost online. Ron A

Another packing tip. If you will be using packing peanuts or shreaded paper cover the cab in plastic either a plastic bag or wrap it in cellophane (saran wrap) to keep particles out of the grill and input.

I've gotten boxes a U-Haul or those self storage places. If you have a padded cover, just got for one heavy box. If not, I'd suggest double boxing. Packing materials can be expensive, so look around. I still need to find a cheap source for bubble wrap.
