I have recently found myself thrust in to the world of playing gigs around town, but unfortunately, though I play many instruments, I don't have a bass nor do I have an amp. The band I'm playing with does have a bass for me to use, but we have played 2 shows and have resorted to borrowing amps from fellow musicians until we find a gig-worthy amp. I was wondering if anyone had advice on what brand to look at purchasing, or if there are any of you out there who may have an old dusty cab that they would be willing to part with. Our style is pretty basic rock, but I play everything from smooth rock to metal and would like an amp that can handle a lot of punchy low end bass with occasional overdrive, but will also focus those specific frequencies so notes aren't muddy and bland on stage or in the studio. Any help would be SERIOUSLY appreciated!

In addition to that, volume requirements, gigging situation, other folks in the band's gear and how they use it, typical size gigs, PA support?, if no PA, how big a venue?
FWIW, there are no "special frequencies". Something sounding muddy or clear can both happen with the cheapest, and most expensive of components....it's in the design. A lot of it also has to do with fhe room you're playing in. Not much you can do to physically alter the room, but plenty you can do about where you position your rig within that room and how you eq it to correct for that room.
Right, I understand the whole "special frequencies" thing, I was just thinking about how you can really tweak the settings on the behringer amps and such. My budget is kinda slim right now, something under 300 for sure. The guitarist is using a crate 4x12 cab. Some places we have lined up have PA support, and some don't. Most of the venues are around 200 capacity, some more, some less, and we have a couple outdoor shows lined up as well (which I expect will surely have PA). We have gotten away with not running any mics on the drums as of yet, but that will most likely change petty soon as well.
