Short scale basses

The short scale I love the most is my 70's Univox hollowbody. Gorgeous bass, great sound, nicely balanced, and just a beautiful piece of history:

Bingo. I love love love these 70's short scale basses. They are a pants flappin' good time. I have a Lyle which was also made by the Matsumoko(SP) company. They made most if not all the Gibson knockoffs. Yours is much prettier than mine.

This will date me as far as age...
I had a Mustang bass with flat-wound strings running through an old Kustom 200 amp. I used a y-cord to access both channels, ran bass and treble on full, controlled everything from the guitar. Any sound you wanted, Before all the slap bass method was popular. Anyone that says a Mustang won't cut it or sound good is wrong. Mine cooked! Sustain was great. Never had a lick of trouble with it. Stupidly sold it when I went to the Navy.

I also have a 32 inch scale DeArmond Starfire bass (Fender bought the Guild company, and DeArmond for their pickups) It basically is a Guild Starfire elec/accoustic thinline body with DeArmond pickups. Two pickups, selector switch, using TI Flatwounds on it. It is a killer! Not too many of them out there, but worth a look if you see one.

i also have an ibanez mikro. i have begun using it on gigs. i replaced the pickups, put exteremly large gauge strings on it (and had to seriously adjust the bridge hardware to get the thick strings to intonate), and will be looking to upgrade the tuners. it sounds nicer than you think...and plays especially well. later, ron
