Sorry to be so simple....need to record from XRL outputting amp to computer.....will this be a good bet for the money?

Why does it say MIDI? Is that a good format, and do these M-Audios all record in that, or is this one special?

Also, what else would I need with this? Just and XLR cable??

plug it in and link it up to your favorite recording software and you're recording. Get firewire if you have that capability.

What's the deal with firewire? I notice the firewire costs twice as much, is it faster/clearer?

Firewire records at lower latency.

You could record many more tracks ontop of each other or simultaniously using firewire.

I don't think that is what you really want look at the inputs on the back. Two low-impedance XLR connectors, not combo connectors. So you would need a DI to use those inputs. There is a stereo mini mic input, I guess you could use with and adapter. Will it work yes, is what you appear to think it is no.

Look around for a M-Audio FastTrack they are real basic but do what you want and real cheap. MF and other have them all the time in the refurb or clearance area for like $70.

Okay I will amend what I said I was thinking you wanted to go bass into computer. You want to go from the amp's XLR to computer the device your looking at will work. The FastTrack will also work and will also let you run your bass or the amp into your computer.

Read up a little on high-impedance and low-impedance inputs and what type of outputs things like basses, amps, mic's are then you will understand the in's and out's are when looking at hardware.

I 2nd the fast track pro, I have one...looking at it now, has served me VERY well.

I run the DI from my markbass to the FTP, plug in headphones and that's how I tend to practice and record just my bass.
