You can have a repair shop that works on high school instrument do some of the grunt work and bring it to a the high end later. That's what a friend did. Took it San Diego musical exchange in Vista CA and then to a high end repair shop in LA for the intricate stuff. BTW those guys in Vista are not bad either. They did a good job on my 5/8 cracks - at least that's what Robertson's here in ABQ said. Also they were honest about the finger board issue which Robertson's corrected but at that time I just did not have the funds and they said that I really need it to take it to a better luthier.
