Double Bass Should I repair it? Advice sought.

You can have a repair shop that works on high school instrument do some of the grunt work and bring it to a the high end later. That's what a friend did. Took it San Diego musical exchange in Vista CA and then to a high end repair shop in LA for the intricate stuff. BTW those guys in Vista are not bad either. They did a good job on my 5/8 cracks - at least that's what Robertson's here in ABQ said. Also they were honest about the finger board issue which Robertson's corrected but at that time I just did not have the funds and they said that I really need it to take it to a better luthier.

I think I'm with @Martin Beer on this one.. though I hate that it's an antique. It would definitely be a rocking bass by the time you had all that work done, but I wonder if you couldn't just squirt some hhg and clamp open seams, adjust the setup and play it til it breaks, or you can afford the big repair, whichever comes first

From what I can see (and better pics would help), in your place I think I would get the top done and a new setup (fboard, post, bridge), and leave the rest.

Unless the back is rattling, it's not worth the trouble to fix. Increasing the overstand is not necessary to the bass, though it could be if you're playing a lot of classical. If the neck's not moving, you don't likely need a reset. Your endpin looks perfectly adequate, but if you don't like it you can buy another and plug it in yourself. $625 plus strings.

Go out and play $4000-10,000 basses in good shape to decide where yours might fit within that price range once repaired. But first, figure out if you really like the bass enough to take a chance on it with that much time and money.

$500 to take the top off. In my neck of the woods that is $1K.
