Should I take this gig?

I am pretty annoyed about lots of things regarding gigs. I hide it well. Extremely well. I get hired. I submit my invoice. I collect my pa..... you get where I'm at. In fact I would go as far as saying that hiding being annoyed about things in general gets me hired more than my playing, which is absolutely nothing special.

True dat!

I used to partner with a guy. We had one customer who paid well and on time. But she was a total pain to have to deal with.

My partner’s wife wanted us to drop the customer because “They’re obnoxious.” and “They talk to you like you’re nobody.”

My partner told her: If we refused to do work for anyone we felt wasn’t treating us they way we’d like them to, we wouldn’t have any customers at all.

Take the gig stay away from the bar owner you’re the bass player, your band leader owes to pay you whether he gets paid or not, who gives a crap what the bar owner thinks about anything.

Bar owners will call their own employees and tell them to stay home if they think it will benefit their bottom line. They didn’t open a bar because they were feeling charitable.

You won't get rich playing at small bars - you just won't. If the gig is likely to be enjoyable, do it for the fun of it. If it isn't fun playing bars, you need to re-orient your band(s) to play in other venues.

Take the gig. Much less stress or none at all when subbing. 2 kinds of business. My business and none of my business. imho no need to discuss previous situations with BL. Its not going to change anything, may only start a negative dialogue. Reality is your previous bands did not draw, but yes bar owner should have dealt with it sooner if thats their policy.

Play it.

I've realized in over 5.5 decades of playing and gigging in all sorts of clubs from the fanciest to the seediest, I can probable count the number of club owners that really like to deal with bands, cause they are nice people, on one hand.

Most club owners would rather have a jukebox than deal with a band, if they could get away with it, and bring in the crowd. So take the gigs and the money.
