My '96 G&L SB-1 lefty:

The bass on the left is my '58-style five string P-bass. The body and neck were carved by a local luthier who was also a neighbor when I was a kid (decades ago). He also acquired the parts, sprayed the nitro finish, assembled it. I requested a chunky neck with asymmetric profile and he delivered beautifully; it plays like a dream. It has a Nordstrand NP5v pickup (alnico magnets), and Stellartone Tonestyler passive tone control -- sounds killer, too. I wish I could have made it more vintage-looking -- e.g. nickel hardware, Kluson-style tuners, fully-threaded bridge saddles -- but there aren't many vintage replacement parts for five string bass. I was lucky that the luth already had a gold anodized guard for it. The bridge is thru-body only which I don't care for, but that's not a big deal.

The other bass is a Benavente 51 model fiver. The finish is transparent butterscotch blond, doesn't really qualify for the thread, but I wanted to capture my two most vintage-looking fivers.

Thread resurrection! (always willing to display one of my FrankenFenders)! :woot:
