Patti started aggressively grooming (and occasionally gnawing on) her right paw last week, just as she started shaking her ears more than usual. Her timing was good--she already had an annual vet checkup scheduled for the next day. The vet suggested it was probably allergies; we get a ton of allergens in central NC in the summer, as my wife knows all too well. So we had to keep her away from the paw while applying ointment a couple times a day and giving her half a Zyrtec daily. We tried the cone of shame, and she was NOT a happy camper.

She pulled the cone off several times (have I mentioned she's strong?). So my wife devised another solution--a sock, split at the top so it could be tied to her harness. This worked much better, we just had to take it off at walk time.

After a week, her paw was completely better.:) The ears are still bothering her, despite the Zyrtec and daily cleaning, so that's a work in progress. But she passed all her regular vet tests with flying colors.

Lady.

Got her 3 years ago today.

My good friend commissioned his daughter to paint a portrait of Lady from a family Christmas photo I sent to his family.
I knew nothing about it until I received it this past July.

So sweet!

Looking a lot like my Patti--except she has a little pink in her nose (and thus maybe a smidge of pittie). Is Lady mostly/all Jack Russell? Patti's definitely got some dachshund in her.

Lady is all JRT from a breeder. I had first pick of the litter at 9 weeks. In PA you can't get them any earlier. Used to be 6 weeks but that changed back in the late 90's. She's my fifth JRT (though my very first one was actually half JRT and have Boston Terrier and I got to meet the Dame and Sire).

Lady is also my first Female JRT. She was house trained in one day. Covid made that a lot easier though since I was working from home and took her out every hour.

Your Patti looks like she might have some Brittany Spaniel based on her nose color and eye color. She looks like a real sweetie!

Here's Lady on her actual 3rd Birthday on June 30 of this Summer.
