Yep, not alot heavier, but it's definetly noticeable. I'm not sure if they changed to heavier magnets, or if there was some other change.
ya know, i'm back to only having my swr electric blue and a stewart 2.1 poweramp, (the swr is being used as a preamp only).
Despite liking the solo'd tone of my old demeter and alembic better, and of my eden just as much but in a different way, i have to say that the swr is hanging pretty darned well. I'll never sell that unit as they're hard to come by. Sure, i use a sans amp BDDI in front of it sometimes to warm it up, but most of the time that original swr enginering preamp cuts thru and sounds great in a live setting. Still not my favorite pre when playing by myself, but man, does it sound good live.
(FWIW, as far as i could ever tell, all the original swr heads sounded exactly the same despite different eq's and features.) With the exception of the old WM 12 and WM 15 i never liked the WM series, and i really dont care for the Mo' stuff or even the newer pro stuff. to me, it just sounds different, and i really dont like all the extra goop on the X heads. That doesn't mean you're stupid if you do like any of the ones i just dissed. Hey, there's a lot of options out there and no one thing is right for evryone.

mikeyvr6, how do you like your Dr.Bass cab? I've been thinking of ordering a 2x10 but reviews I've read of their customer service have me on the fence.

A very surprising amount of low end! Pump some watts into it and it just sings. To be safe, before my first gig with it I engaged the 50Hz high pass filter on my QSC. During the course of the night I ended up EQing my pre almost exactly as I do when I run the 8x10. The tone was very reminiscent of the fridge, although a bit more "edgy" due to the smaller drivers and the fact that it's ported. I think it'll do fine as my medium-sized gig cabinet. My gig this weekend will confirm that hopefully.

The Dr. is a very cool cabinet. Small, light, and reasonably loud for a 2x10 with decent lows. It fills my need as a small gig cab perfectly. I don't have any experience with their customer service--I traded an Avatar 2x12 for it so I didn't have to deal with them.
FWIW, the previous owner brought along his Schroeder 1210 when we traded and I got a chance to A/B them with my gear. I liked the Dr. Bass better than the Schroeder.

It's not like I asked for free stuff- it's not like I expected them to give me anything for free- it's that I ended up paying to recone speakers their amp blew- that inconvenienced me, it cost me gigs that summer. And the attempt to "make it right" by the "customer service" person's boss was an apology, a couple stickers, a couple t-shirts and a hat. Not refunding the money, not comping me the parts- it was "yeah sorry, that shouldn't have happened- have some t-shirts." At least that guy made an attempt, but anything short of refunding the money I paid for the recones and the shipping wasn't going to "make it right."cgworkman said:
