shuttle 6.0 question

If you have a very low output passive pickup, you may have trouble achieving much overdrive of the tube (the tube characteristics are still there however, minus the distortion) but with an external preamp (that has at least 12dB of gain, not a buffer) you should be able to overdrive the tube no problem. Is there both an input and output level on the external preamp? Both will need to be turned up appropriately to increase the level above unity.

Regarding the FET channel of the GBE-1200, the gain is lower because generally this is not the channel that will be overdriven and extra headroom is provided to achieve this clean operation with the very high output active pickups.

well mystery solved and all i can say is duh. when i read the manuel it basically said when the hardest notes are played you should see the overload light. well i play with a somewhat soft touch and under normal playing conditions i could not get the overload light to spark up, but simpley laying on those strings with my pluckin hand lit it right up. this amp sounds fantastic, practiced with my band last night and everyone wanted a turn playing bass, never had that happen before.
