Shuttle and grit...

Hi ,

I'm currently using a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 and NeoX-212T. Overall, the sound is great. Nevertheless, I could use some more grit to get a better rocktone. I tried a lot of settings, but I'm still not completely satisfied.

Do you guys have any suggestions to improve my sound?

I also thought of buying another amp, like a GK 1001RB-II or a Fusion 550. Would that be a good choice?

Many TBers use and love the Sansamp VT pedal in front of otherwise clean sounding solid state amps to get that type of tone.

The best grit can be had with the Gain on max (of course), but I have to say I only really was able to get that sound when I swapped my Shuttle 6.0 for the Max 12. The tube channel on the 12, although supposedly the same as the 6.0 is wayyyy grittier.

Well, I also own a VT bass pedal, but 'm not satisfied with the sound. I tried it in different configurations, in the signal chain to the normal input of the Shuttle and in the effects return.
The first setup gets boomy / wooly at some tones and I can't get rid of it. The second setup seems to be better, but then I loose the mute function and some other functions of the amp.

I'm searching for a decent rocktone, with a little but of grit. I'm trying to achieve that with a minimum amount of knobs and controls (that's why I bought the Shuttle)

Would a GK or another amp be better?

If your set on buying a new amp (well sounds like it a little) GK is a GREAT way to get a rock tone. You'll have to try one if you haven't already, and you probably know you'll love it or hate it (thankfully for GK people love em more than they hate em :) )

The tube channel is different on the MAX.....specifically, we addressed that people wanted more tube grit. If you put the button into "high gain" setting, the tube will go into full distortion.

So, if I trade my Shuttle 6.0 for a ShuttleMAX 6.0 I will be able to get a better rocktone.. Sounds great! I really like the GB stuff, so I would be great if I could get my sound out of it...

I hope hope they are already available in Europe...

yes...the are available in Europe.

I play my Shuttle 6 and 12 almost daily on gigs...
I find that if i want grit the MAX12 will get me there since there is a button on each channel that changes the sensitivity ( if that is the right term) for that channel..
however i don't find that i need grit too often but instead i will use the tube channels input turned up somewhat in order to get tube compression which makes my bass sit in a track very nicely with some bands..

But I did use my Max 12 on a fly date the other day into an 8x10.. and used the tube channel with a little grind dialed in... it did the job very well...
I think the 12 can get to the GRIT tone easier than the 6 does... i am doing a gig for the Dallas cowboys tomorrow and im using my shuttle 6.. we did pore setup for the show and the 6 carries the stage well with the internal DI out doing the house...
