Shuttlemax VS LM3/LMTube

So...Im new to lightweight stuff

Ive done my research and these are the 3 amps I would like to go for.

Obviously I can only have 1! So which one?!

I love the MB LM2...I tried one out and I was bowled over.

I play rock, but I would like something that does slap and a little hi fi.

The reason is, my Orange AD200b Mk3 nails the perfect tube cranked distortion. So...if I dont have a grit option...Im not overly fussed as I have the perfect sound already, and a sansamp if needs be.

I just cannot decide what amp is right.

Ive heard many things on both companies. I realise GB are doing very well! But I love those 2 MB magic controls! I know the MAX does the tube stuff...but its not gonna be like my Orange. Also...which sounds louder?

Any one heard the LM3 / LMTube yet?

I haven't played the new MB amps but I did own a LMII for a while and just received a Shuttle Max 12 earlier this week. I really liked the LMII and it's small size and big power make it a nice amp as you already know. The Shuttle Max definitely has more variation in the tones that you can get from the amp. The tube channel is better than I imagined and you can get a fair amount of distortion out of it. The Shuttle Max has also really impressed me in the amount of punch and girth you can get out of it. I too would like to hear the LM3 and LM tube but I don't plan on letting my SM12 go, this is the happiest I've been with an amp in a couple of years.

FWIW, I A/B'ed the LMII next to the GB Neo Pak, GK 700 RB, GK 1001 RB and Carvin B1500 and ended up picking the LMII over them all except for the Carvin (which I still have and plan to keep as a backup amp for now).

You're not getting much reaction I think because people on here are split about the GB and Markbass sounds, and it's already been talked to death. And the new amps are just barely out or not out yet and not many people have either one yet.

Botton line is they're each excellent and they're each very small. I don't expect either to stray too far from the formulas they already have established.

I don't believe the LMIII/LMTube are shipping in the US yet (although it seems a few have trickled in).

The LMIII is a minor 'upgrade' to the LMII (a little bit more sophisticated safetly limiting and a more fully featured DI). So, for that one, if you've played an LMII, you pretty much know what an LMIII sounds like.

The LMTube, besides the blendable tube pre, also has a mute switch and a second input (combo jack with separate volume control).

The Shuttle Max is getting great reviews, so as JimmyM states, you just need to look at the feature sets, etc. My guess is, the volume/output of each of these would be about the same (i.e., the Shuttle Max 6 versus the LMIII/LMTube or the Shuttle Max 12 versus the LM800/LMTube... assuming 2 cabs).

Of course, the spec with the most wump if you are using a single large 4ohm cab is the LM800/LMTube800, since the Shuttle Max 12 can't be bridged.

IMO, this will be one decision you would have a hard time screwing up... both great companies with a proven track record and great product specs and execution.

+1, although, as many know, I like to dig into these products and talk about the good and bad of all of them (at least from my perspective). I'm just so impressed with each of these companies listening to feedback from customers, and more importantly non customers who didn't buy for a specific reason.

Both the new Shuttle and LM line seem to be meaningful improvements over the previous models, with the LM line adding a more fully featured DI, a mute switch and second input with volume control on some models, and improved safety limiting to give them a bit more balls at 8ohm operation, and of course adding a blendable tube, and the Shuttle adding variable voicing filters (excellent!), and semiparametric mids, a model with more power, etc.

Nice upgrades/improvements. I love trying all this stuff, so I'm pretty sure that the Shuttle Max 6 will be my first Genz Benz purchase! I also have an LMTube800 on the way if MB would get off their ***es and ship the darn things:D
