Double Bass Sibelius symphony #2 - refrain..

Hi all

I am working through this, and I understand that watching the conductor is essential to understanding tempo variations within the piece. However, at home, DB score in hand, I am having trouble following the DB part, for example in first movement, from bars 36 to double bar (just before the pizzicato), I don't seem to be able to understand how fast the piece actually moves..Are there any general tips )or sepcific to this piece) anyone recommends?

I have a few recordings of this symphony on CD - not that I'm really qualified to offer advice on this subject, but wouldn't listening to how some great orchestras/conductors play this piece, help?

Try to get a look at the full score so you can see what else is going on compared to the bass part.
